Game description:
Tungtung's Nightmare is a short indie horror game inspired by a viral meme related to sahur, the early meal before fasting in Ramadan. The game starts in a quiet bedroom, where the player's phone goes off, reminding them it’s time for sahur. Instead of waking up, the player decides to go back to sleep. What follows is a strange shift into a dark and empty building, where the familiar becomes distorted. The environment is made up of plain walls, tiled floors, and dim lighting, placing the player in a space that feels disconnected from reality.
Objective and Threat
The main goal in Tungtung's Nightmare is to collect six food items scattered around the building. While doing so, the player is hunted by a character known as Tungtung, a strange figure with exaggerated features and an unnatural movement pattern. The game uses a basic chase mechanic, requiring the player to stay alert and move quickly to avoid being caught. There are no weapons or defenses—survival depends on movement and awareness. The food items must be returned to a central table, which tracks progress with a clear counter.
Design and Structure
The game uses low-poly graphics and simple textures, echoing the style of early 3D games. This stripped-down approach helps keep attention on the objective and the threat. The enemy’s behavior is unpredictable, making each run slightly different. There is minimal instruction, so players learn through trial and error. Despite its short length, Tungtung's Nightmare manages to create pressure through limited space and fast-paced encounters. It takes a humorous concept and reworks it into a basic but focused horror experience, where one wrong turn can end the game.
