Just Clean Your Room

Game description:

Just Clean Your Room places players in the shoes of the eldest child left to care for his younger sibling while their parents are out of town. The setting is the familiar yet increasingly cluttered space of their shared bedroom in the parents’ house, where day after day, the protagonist chooses the comfort of isolation over the unpleasantness of chores. Despite frequent admonitions from his mother, the room's condition worsens, becoming a chaotic jumble of clothes, dishes, and miscellaneous trash. This negligence sets the stage for a series of increasingly unpleasant discoveries that challenge the protagonist’s tolerance for disorder. The game cleverly uses the everyday task of cleaning to weave a narrative that explores consequences of neglect, in terms of cleanliness and personal responsibility and the care of one's environment.

Confronting Fears and Filth

As the mess grows, so does the protagonist’s anxiety, particularly about his phobia of cockroaches—a fear that has been kept at bay thanks to the presumed cleanliness of his surroundings. However, the turning point comes when, amidst the disarray, the dreaded creatures finally make an appearance, triggered by the squalid conditions of the room. This encounter forces the player to tackle the physical task of cleaning and to confront and manage his fears directly. Just Clean Your Room evolves from a simple simulation of household chores into a deeper psychological challenge, where the player must balance the urgency of cleaning with the need to overcome personal fears, all while ensuring the safety and comfort of both siblings. This unexpected twist adds a layer of urgency and engagement to what might otherwise be mundane gameplay, turning every decision about what to clean next into a tactical move against the creeping chaos.
