Doodle Empires

Game description:

Doodle Empires is a sandbox strategy game where players create and evolve fictional nations by drawing directly onto a digital map. Set in a world of alternate history and ever-changing borders, the game gives players full control over how empires rise, fall, and transform. With a mix of freeform creativity and structured mechanics, each session becomes a custom-built history shaped by choices, chance, and a little bit of artistic instinct. From founding new countries to sparking revolutions, every action plays a role in shaping the global story.

Creating history with a brush

The core gameplay of Doodle Empires begins with a simple task: select a nation color, give it a name, and draw its borders. Each stroke of the brush uses up drawing power, meaning players must balance size with efficiency. Once power runs out, players shift focus from drawing to managing their chosen nations by drawing action cards. These cards determine how countries interact with each other, expand, merge, or split apart. The system encourages experimentation and storytelling rather than fixed outcomes or win conditions.

Cards, mechanics, and map tools

Cards are the game’s main engine for change. Each card affects the selected nation in a different way—some encourage growth, others create conflict, while a few add defensive tools or political shifts. Players must think tactically about which card to play and when, especially as the map becomes more crowded with competing nations.

Card types include:

·         Expand (small, medium, large) to increase territory

·         Split to divide a nation into two separate states

·         Union to merge two nations into one

·         New Nation to start an independent country

·         New Leader to change a nation’s traits and behavior

·         Build Castle to protect areas with stronger defenses

Visual modes and gameplay depth

To help manage the growing complexity of the world, Doodle Empires includes multiple visual modes. Political Mode shows the current state of borders and all active nations. Origin Mode traces the lineage of each nation back to its root, highlighting breakaway states and shared cultures. Fort Mode reveals which areas are protected by castles, adding a layer of defensive strategy to expansion decisions. These views give players both clarity and insight into how their world is evolving.

Doodle Empires isn’t just about conquering space—it’s about crafting a living, shifting world. With each new turn, the map becomes more layered and unpredictable. Whether players are building a sprawling empire, creating a web of rival microstates, or watching old nations fall to revolution, the experience is shaped entirely by their choices. It’s a game of dynamic history made with lines, names, and imagination—no two maps ever look the same.
