VHOLUME

Game description:

Reaching a government office is anything but straightforward in VHOLUME. Robert lives in the derelict capital of Afro-Eurasia, where an all-controlling Ministry has revoked his family’s ration tickets. His objective is to restore them, but the city turns this bureaucratic task into a long journey through interconnected concrete environments. The story moves forward as Robert crosses Ministry-controlled areas and continues deeper into the capital, with navigation and movement forming the main way of progressing.

Find a Way Through

Robert can run, jump, climb, and slide, and these actions are designed to flow into one another. Rather than following a single marked route, players can examine walls, platforms, gaps, and elevated structures to decide how they want to cross an area. Momentum can be carried through several movements, making it possible to reach places that initially appear difficult or discover a faster line through a familiar section.

Search for Faster Routes

Levels are built as parkour spaces rather than simple corridors. The obvious route may work for a first attempt, but repeated play reveals shortcuts and alternative paths through the labyrinthine layouts. Target times encourage players to return after learning a level and reduce unnecessary movement.

The main actions and goals during a level include:

·         running between connected sections;

·         climbing walls and higher structures;

·         sliding to preserve movement;

·         chaining jumps without losing momentum;

·         finding hidden shortcuts;

·         reaching the finish under a target time.

A failed jump does not make exploration useless. Learning where a path leads, which surfaces can be climbed, and where speed can be preserved helps with the next attempt. As familiarity increases, the same environment changes from a navigation problem into a route-optimization challenge.

Players can also encounter ghost runs left by others. These show another person moving through the same level and can reveal jumps, shortcuts, or approaches that are easy to miss when exploring alone. Ghosts can therefore be used as references while learning how to cross difficult sections more efficiently. Levels can also be entered with other players, allowing several people to move through the same parkour environment together.

Master the Movement

VHOLUME does not rely on combat encounters to create its main challenge. Improvement comes from understanding the movement system and learning how each level is constructed. A player may initially focus only on reaching the end, then return to experiment with different routes and chase a better time. Running, sliding, climbing, and jumping become more effective when they are connected without hesitation. The result is a progression loop based on exploration first and efficiency later: understand the environment, discover alternative paths, practice difficult transitions, and eventually cross the same level with fewer mistakes and more continuous momentum.
